Message from Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance:

The Laflin Borough Council has recently appointed the Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance to be the primary EMS provider/ambulance service for Laflin. We are very excited to serve Laflin. Laflin was a charter community upon our Organization’s founding back in 1952, so we are very excited to return to serve one of our original communities, and provide prompt, quality, safe, and reliable EMS care.

We are a community-based non-profit organization. We maintain two stations, including our headquarters in downtown Pittston. We have multiple professional crews on duty 24 hours a day. We provide advanced life support (paramedic service) along with basic life support care, with a fleet of seven ambulance units, along with multiple support vehicles. We have special operations resources and capabilities, and look forward to working hand-in-hand with your Laflin Volunteer Fire Company.

As a particular interest to residents, we are pleased to offer our annual subscription program. This program allows you to subscribe to our ambulance service for a small annual fee. If ambulance service is needed, any charges not covered by your health insurance plan will be waived.

In this informational packet, we are providing you with the opportunity to subscribe to our service. We have several different subscription plans to fit the needs of your family. Your subscription not only protects your family any time that you need ambulance service, but also serves as a needed revenue source for our organization to allow us to continue to ensure our financial stability.

As a non-profit provider that relies on no taxpayer funds to operate, we continue to depend on you to support our mission. We ask that you consider subscribing to our organization to ensure that there will be a well-equipped, staffed community-based non-profit ambulance serving the Borough for many years to come.

Laflin Borough Code Enforcement

Laflin Borough has entered into an Intermunicipal Cooperation Agreement with the City of Pittston to handle property maintenance code enforcement and violations.  The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has established a program to encourage municipalities to enter into such agreements for the sharing of code enforcement services.  The Act of December 19, 1996, P.L. 1158, No. 177, § 1, 53 PA C.S.A. §2301 permits intergovernmental agreements.

To minimize the cost of administration and to retain a full-time code enforcement department, the City of Pittston Code Enforcement Department was appointed the official code officer for Laflin Borough by Resolution #5 of 2021 on 4/13/21.  The code office will proactively enforce property maintenance codes through patrols, complaints, and inspection requests.

The 2015 Edition of the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) was adopted by Ordinance #2 of 2021 and will guide enforcement on complaints of high grass & weeds, sight obstructions at intersections, unregistered or inoperable vehicles at properties, fence problems, trash burning violations, problematic pools, and general property maintenance issues.

G&R Consulting will still handle building permits and construction inspections.  Noise disturbances, and other law enforcement activities, will still be handled by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) by calling 911.   Zoning ordinances and planning will remain with the county office – Luzerne Co. Planning Commission.

Should you have any questions, please contact the borough office at (570) 654-3323 or LaflinBoro@comcast.net.
