New walking track info/recycling/Yard Sale

1) The new walking track at Creekside Park is now open! It is 1140’-approximately ¼mile in circumference. Stop and visit. Parking is off of Market Street near the playground.

2) Recycling is very important and we encourage our residents to always RECYCLE! Please refrain from putting out the blue recycling receptacles in front of your mailboxes. Our mail drivers cannot deliver mail if the receptacle is in front of the mailbox.

3) Borough wide yard sale will be held on June 23, 2012 from 9:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. Everyone wanting to do participate should have a sign in their yard or garage. We are going to have maps of the Borough streets available at 47 Laflin Rd. on the day of the sale. Please feel free to drive through Laflin Borough to find your treasures.

4) The Bureau of Aging has a Mature Worker Program for workers age 55 plus. They will pay the trainee’s first month’s salary. Please contact 1-800-252-1512 for more information.

Councilman Ray Pendolphi Passes Away

Raymond J. Pendolphi

Raymond J. Pendolphi, 78, of Laflin passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in the Keystone section of Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Riccardo and Ursalina Dominick Pendolphi.
He was a graduate of Plains High School and was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin.
Mr. Pendolphi was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by U.S. Airlines as a customer service representative.
He served as a Laflin Borough councilman since 1976 and was a volunteer with its fire department for many years. He was also a life member of the Perugia Society and a member of the Big Band Society of Norteastern Pennsylvania. Since 1963, he worked as a self-employed painter until his later years.
He was fond of playing cards with his sons and many friends, especially his Thursday night poker and pitch games. One of his greatest joys was hunting and fishing with his beloved dog, Max, by his side.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joanne M. Salerno, in 2009; brothers, Frank, Paul and Levio Pendolphi; sisters, Anna Sipple, Valia Pendolphi, Agnes (Daisy) Charney, Tina Stella and Nancy Rutkoski.
Surviving are his sons, Michael A. Pendolphi, Esq., Shavertown; Brian A. Pendolphi, RPH, Laflin; granddaughter, Madyson.
Sisters, Lena Pastorelli, Plains Township; Olga (Penny) Lotzi and her husband, Frank, Plains Township; Jeanette Williams, Plains Township; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, with the pastor, Monsignor Neil Van Loon, as celebrant.
Interment will be in Lithuanian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming.
